No older person should be alone on Christmas Day unless they want to be

Kind donors who give more than money – Day 20 of our Countdown to Christmas

We are totally reliant on the generosity of people like you, and some kind partner organisations, to continue our work.

We’ve recently heard from a donor about why she decided to donate to us, especially when it’s such an expensive time of year. Below is what she wrote, and it meant so much to us to read this that we thought we’d share it with you.

Here are Claire’s words;

‘I used to live in the flat below an old lady who was very fragile and often fell over so I’d hear the thud and go running up to scoop her up and make sure she was ok. I’d often just pop up and sit with her a while, make her a cuppa and get her reminiscing about her life.

Since I moved away I’ve often worried how dear Hazel is. Her only visitors were myself and the health visitor. Very sad. I only hope if I ever end up in the same situation there’s an organisation like yours near by. You’re all angels. Merry Christmas to you all and all the old folk who will enjoy a happier Christmas because of charities like yours.’

Whilst we’re enormously grateful for Claire’s contribution, we are also so grateful that she took the time to say hello and check on a neighbour. Communities would be so much stronger if we all took a leaf out of Claire’s book.
