As many will attest, Christmas is a time for cake.
There is one thing that makes that slice of cake taste just that little bit sweeter though, companionship. So when you look at that mound of Christmas food in front of you, why not make yourself feel a bit less guilty and a bit more connected to your neighbours by slicing a big piece of cake onto a plate, wrapping it in cling film, and heading to your nearest elderly neighbours.
When you get there, pop the kettle on, have a good old catch up, and let them know that even though they may be spending some of the festive season alone, they are not isolated or forgotten.
Improving your community, and the lives of older people IS a piece of cake. And sometimes a cuppa too.
