Case Studies

There is sometimes a blurring between guests and volunteers – anyone can be alone at Christmas and our event makes it better for all.

Making contacts from the comfort of your armchair

Christmas can be a very lonely time for a number of people. Founded 2 years ago with the aim of combating loneliness, Oapschat stands for Optimistic and ProActive Seniors Chat. The website and FaceBook pages are ‘open’ for business 24/7 and the Facebook page currently has 1172 members. Christmas Day will be just like any other day for some of you but we can change that if you would like to get in contact by email or via private message on Facebook. Once new members have been validated you may be connected with someone in a similar situation who will respond either online or by telephone. Who knows, you may even find someone living near you and new friendships can be made in person!

No elderly person in the UK should be on their own on Christmas Day unless they want to be

I have been on http://www.oapschat.co.uk for the last two years. I have made many friends and have visited some of them when I have been travelling in the area where they live. One true friend is Norman Turner who had lost his wife and was rather down. We are in constant contact and have met up four times in the last two years. Nobody need be alone. There is always someone on Oapschat FB page to talk to. I really recommend the site.

This is an easily-joined group created and run by a highly motivated lady. There is a good mixture of material to be found here, with topics both familiar and unfamiliar which most people will find offering them a ‘way in’ to on-line conversations with someone of a like mind. We used to chat ‘over the garden wall’. Today, we can share our thoughts with people both near and far, without needing to leave the fireside.

No need to feel alone with this amazing website, Jan, the founder of oapschat does a wonderful job, covering all aspects of life. Everything on it is so interesting, with so much covered, well worth a look. I would recommend it to anyone.

I have been a member of Oapschat for two years since its inception. I have met many new friends including two people that will be lifelong friends. I have met Jan and Derek several times and we plan many more meetings.Jan is a dedicated host and works very hard to bring the best to the website. All these new friends are available at one click from your armchair what could be easier. Long live Oapschat.
